The Resurrection of Cletus Kasady: How Marvel Revived the Original Carnage
Deadpool and Carnage Have Just Been Brought Back [SPOILER]
Wade Wilson is a major Marvel character who makes an unexpected return to Deadpool #4 after being infected previously with a piece from the Carnage virus symbiote.
The following contains spoilers for Deadpool #4, which is now on sale at Marvel.
Cletus Kasady suddenly emerges from Wade Wilson, having been infected in Marvel’s Deadpool #4.
Deadpool #4 comes from Alyssa Wang, Martin Coccolo’s artist, Neeraj Menon, and Joe Sabino, letterer VC. Wade was injected with a portion of the Carnage symbiote earlier in the series after he was kidnapped from the Harrower while he was on a mission to assassinate Dr. Otto Octavius/Doc Ock. Since then, Wade has been given a host of strange powers by the symbiote, including an extra set of legs and other unusual extremities.
Deadpool#4 Wade’s symbiote transforms to become a huge creature about the size of an entire bus. After Harrower separates Deadpool’s chemical stabilizers from his backpack, he separates the two. Harrower is screamed “Mommy!” as the symbiote finds its path back to him. Wade was attached to Wade’s back. Harrower creates a giant flower in which Carnage, and its host, become trapped. The issue’s final page shows the flower hatching, and Carnage is reunited with its original host, Cletus Kasady. It’s nice to be back. Cletus declares triumphantly on the final page.
Cletus’ Return & Carnage‘s Continuing Series
Cletus will return to the Marvel universe in Deadpool#5 in March. This version of Cletus may be different than Cletus in Carnage’s ongoing Marvel series. Cletus, who was presumed dead after the Extreme Carnage event in 2021, has seen his voice mysteriously infect Jonathan Shayde, a detective who has been monitoring the symbiote for some time and recently became its host. Carnage#8 Ram V and Roge Anton further revealed Cletus had a close relationship with his childhood home St. Estes Orphanage. This was literal as he “melded” with the site upon his rebirth.
Deadpool#5 has a synopsis that reads “CARNAGE BREAKS LOOSE!” We forgot to mention that Wade was home to Carnage. It is. Wade is done riding along and WANTS to get out of the way. Wade, be ready to get ripped!
Deadpool#4 covers cover art from Coccolo and Menon. Variant cover art by Nic, Todd Nauck, and Rachelle Rosenberg. Mike McKone, Chris Sotomayor. Marvel has the issue available for purchase.
